The angle subtended, at an object point on the optical axis, by the radius of the entrance pupil.
Industry:Earth science
A survey traverse in which the direction of a measured course is determined by azimuth and verified by taking a back azimuth. To make this kind of traverse, an initial meridian usable as reference must be established.
Industry:Earth science
The speed of an aircraft relative to the air around it.
Industry:Earth science
A device or optical element that converts a single beam of electromagnetic radiation into two or more beams going in different directions. In the optical and near-optical region of the electromagnetic spectrum, a common type of beam splitter is a semi-reflecting mirror set with its normal at an angle to the direction of the beam. Another type is a completely-reflecting mirror with its normal set at an angle to the direction of the beam, but obscuring only a part of the beam. In a third type, a prism may be used instead of a mirror.
Industry:Earth science
A grid system used with Australian maps on the transverse Mercator map projection and having its origin on the equator. Eastings are given the value 500,000 plus the value given by the formula for distances from the central meridian; northings are given the value 10,000,000 plus the negative value given by the formula for distances from the equator. Each grid covers a sector 6° wide, with ½° overlap on adjacent grids. The central scale factor is 0. 9996 in all directions. Officially called the Australian Map Grid (AMG).
