counter-punch
A counter-punch is simply one fighter throwing punches right after his opponent has thrown a punch. A boxer who is a "counter-puncher" waits for his opponent to throw punches, and then his strategy is to block or make his opponent miss and take advantage of any opening in his opponent's defenses.
